Keep also in mind that in the high mountains it can be cold even in summer and sudden changes in weather conditions are possible.

Taking the exit from Bolzano, you can already see along the Ega Valley the grandeur of the Dolomite massifs of the Catinaccio and Latemar. Stop on the shores of Lake Carezza to admire the different shades of green and turquoise of this alpine lake. When you reach the top station of the "Paolina" cable car (2127 m / ft), you will start your excursion to the rifugio Roda di Vael (2,283 m / 7,490 ft), which is located in the southern area of the Catinaccio Group. This mountain hut enjoys an enviable position; from there you have a breathtaking view that sweeps from the Lagorai, the Pale of S. Martino, the Marmolada, the Sella and the Cigolade. After lunch, descend to the Costalunga Pass (1,753 m / 5,751 ft) crossing the long Fassa Valley till the charming Canazei. From here you go up the hairpin bends to Passo Pordoi (2,239 m / 7,346 ft), where if you want you can take the cable car that will bring you up to the summit of Sass Pordoi, at 2,950 m / 9,678 ft, to contemplate a sensational sight: the Marmolada, Sassolungo, Catinaccio and in the distance the Groups of the Ortles and of the Cevedale. The next stop is Sella Pass (2,218 m / 7,277 ft), which offers you a spectacle of impressive and austere beauty with the Sella massif on one side and the Sassolungo Group on the other. After the pass, descend into Gardena Valley and crossing of the villages of Selva and Santa Cristina. At Ortisei you will have free time for a walk and to buy some objects or works of art in wood from a long and recognised tradition. Note: The program may change due to circumstances beyond our control, such as weather conditions, festive or seasonal closures of roads, museums, cable cars etc. In these cases, alternative solutions will be provided.
