Itinerary
A little north of Bolzano, take the Ega Valley towards Lake Carezza. Along the valley you can see the grandeur of the Catinaccio and Latemar massif, two mountain groups that are are testimony to the geological evolution of the Dolomites over hundreds of millions of years. Stop at Lake Carezza (1,520 m / 4,986 ft) where you can admire the different variations of green and turquoise colors of this alpine lake filled by the rains and snows of the Latemar. This massif is reflected in the surface of the lake, creating a fairytale atmosphere. The walk along the path that surrounds the lake is recommended.
Near the Costalunga Pass (1,753 m / 5,751 ft), a new photo stop with a view to the Catinaccio massif. Crossing the pass, you go down to Fassa Valley, and after Canazei, a famous tourist resort known for its colorful houses, go up the hairpin bends to the famous Pordoi Pass (2,239 m / 7,346 ft), the destination of historic cycling feats of champions such as Fausto Coppi (one of his monuments was erected right on the pass). At the Pordoi Pass you will also have the opportunity to go up by cable car to Sass Pordoi (2,950 m - 9,678 ft).
On the way to Cortina d'Ampezzo, stopping at Falzarego Pass (2,117 m / 6,946 ft) is a must; it was the theatre of bloody battles during the First World War, and its trenches are a splendid testimony of this. Last stop in view of Cortina d’Ampezzo to take a photo of this little town located in a beautiful natural environment.
Note: The program may change due to circumstances beyond our control, such as weather conditions, festive or seasonal closures of roads, museums, cable cars etc. In these cases, alternative solutions will be provided.
