Itinerary

The Ega Valley begins just outside Bolzano. Along the valley you can see the grandeur of the Catinaccio and the Latemar massif; two mountain groups that testify the geological evolution of the Dolomites over hundreds of millions of years.

Your excursion begins by taking the panoramic Paolina chairlift. From the top station, you walk north towards the spectacular west face of the Roda di Vael until you reach the start of the via ferrata at Passo del Vajolon (2,560 m / 8,399 ft). There, once you have put on your equipment (harness, helmet, via ferrata set) you proceed, always accompanied by your mountain guide.
The via ferrata runs right on the ridge, on rocky terrain, equipped with steel cables. The view is spectacular, both to the right and to the left, on both sides of the Catinaccio. As you arrive at the top at 2,806 m / 9,206 ft, you can rest in front of a panorama formed by the other peaks of the Catinaccio, by the Latemar and further away, by the Sasso Lungo, the Sella Group, the Marmolada and the Pale di San Martino. Stop for a packed lunch.

After the lunch break, a descent towards the pretty Rifugio Roda di Vael (2,283 m / 7,490 ft);
a short stop for a drink or a coffee. You return to the Paolina mountain station, passing near the monument to Christomannos. Friends and admirers erected this huge bronze eagle, right where Theodor Christomannos, who designed the Great Dolomites Road, loved to stop to admire the Fassa Dolomites.

The chairlift takes you back to the Costalunga Pass. Your beautiful day ends with a stop at Lake Carezza; you can walk the easy path that goes around it or simply admire the different variations of green and turquoise colors of this alpine lake at the foot of the Latermar.

Note: The program may change due to circumstances beyond our control, such as weather conditions, festive or seasonal closures of roads, museums, cable cars etc. In these cases, alternative solutions will be provided.
